Item Description
See #708 for details. Rare. "Shoeless Joe" Jackson is most famous for being the best ballplayer on the infamous Chicago "Black Sox" club which was cited for throwing the 1919 World Series against the National League's Cincinnati Reds in the wake of gambling accusations. After a lengthy trial in court, Baseball Comissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis would ban a total of eight members of the Black Sox for life, including Jackson. Prior to his banishment, "Shoeless Joe" compiled a career batting average of .356, second highest in baseball history at the time of his retirement, and was widely regarded by baseball historians as a sure-fire future Hall of Famer if not for his lifetime ban from the game. Jackson also led the American League multiple times during his career in hits, doubles, triples and total bases. Light age marks are scattered widely around the outer edge plus faint marks by player's raised arm, by "C" of "Center" and above "F" of "Field". A few tiny raised bumps on the outer edges of the upper right quadrant. Button retains its great color and gloss. Fine. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
