Item Description
7-7/8x9-5/8" vintage matte silver gelatin photo mounted on grey construction paper with matching dimensions and depicting 17 ballplayers in full uniform posed on a ballfield in front of stadium seating. Handwritten notations on back read "Birmingham 1920 - 1921 (part) no. 17 on inc.". All ballplayers are identified on back along with their location in the photo. The 1920 Birmingham Barons played in the Class A Southern Association, finishing in fourth place with an impressive won-loss record of 85-69 under manager, Carlton Molesworth. This club included a total of 11 ballplayers who would go on to play in the Major Leagues, with the most notable being: Clyde Barnhart, Whitey Glazner, Johnny Gooch, Johnny Morrison, Homer Summa and Earl Whitehill. Image quality of this photo is superb, .5" corner missing in the lower right. Back of photo exhibits various scuffing marks to the mount. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
