Item Description
6.5x9-7/8" vintage matte photo depicting a quintet of ballplayers posed on a ballfield with baseball bats in hand. Photographer's stamp on back reads "Geo. C. Burke, 847 Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL". This group of five ballplayers represented the late 1920s - early 1930s Chicago National League ball club. Standing at far left is Baseball Hall of Fame outfielder, Kiki Cuyler, standing at far right is fellow HOF outfielder, Hack Wilson and standing second from right is long-time Cubs star, Riggs Stephenson. We have been unable to positively identify the other two individuals but would make an interesting research project. Cuyler would star for Chicago from 1928-35 and finished his career with a lifetime .321 batting average along with 128 home runs and 1,065 RBI's. Wilson would set the all-time MLB record for RBI's in a season with 191 for the Cubs in 1931, finishing with a career average of .307 with 244 homers and 1,063 RBI's. Image quality of this photo is superb, top edge of photo has been trimmed and there are a couple of 1" creases in the upper right-hand corner. Back of photo exhibits remnants of a paper caption removed long ago. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
