Item Description
8x10" vintage matte silver gelatin photo depicting 12 ballplayers in full uniform along with four gentlemen dressed in formal attire and one little boy posed in front of stadium seating with period baseball equipment in the foreground. Extensive research indicates that there were different incarnations of a local black baseball team in the New Orleans, Louisiana area during the 1920s-1930s known as the Pullman Porters, with connections to future Birmingham Black Barons' Winfield Welch during the 1940s. We have been unable to ascertain any additional identifications for this ball club but would certainly make for an interesting research project. Image quality of the photo is superb with 1.75" crease in lower right-hand corner, some lt. foxing on back along with glue residue on the bottom edge. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
