Item Description
8x10" vintage matte photo depicting Hall of Fame great, Johnny Evers dressed in his period Chicago Cubs uniform well after his playing days were complete. Back of photo contains photographer's stamp "Geo. Burke, 847 Belmont Ave., Chicago" along with notations at top of back identifying Evers along with his deceased date of 1947 and file number C-10, N3. Evers was best noted for being the middle name of the historical Cubs double play combination of Tinkers to Evers to Chance. The gritty second baseman played for Chicago from 1902-13, including his prime years of 1906-08 when the Cubs were considered by many to be one of the greatest ball clubs in Major League baseball history. Evers would go on to finish his career with a batting average of .270 along with 919 runs scored and 324 stolen bases. Johnny was also highly thought of as being one of the best defensive second baseman of all-time. Bold and striking image has some waviness in the paper along with lt., even corner wear. Back has a few lt. scuff marks but photo presents very nicely overall. VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
