Item Description
8X10" vintage glossy press photo depicting Baseball Hall of Fame legend, Rogers Hornsby dressed in full Baltimore Orioles uniform along with two gentlemen dressed in formal attire and posed on a baseball field in front of a stadium full of fans. All three are identified via grease pen as Mayor Jackson (standing far left), Joe Tipman (center) and Hornsby (standing far right). This rare image of Hornsby was most likely taken during the early part of the 1938 International Baseball League season as it was the only year that Rogers was with Baltimore and he left the club midway through the year. Suffice it to say that this could possibly be the only Hornsby image in existence picturing him as a Baltimore Oriole. Rogers would spend an amazing 23 seasons playing Major League Baseball, finishing with a lifetime batting average of .358 along with 301 career home runs and 1,584 RBI's, all MLB records for second basemen at the time of his retirement. Image presents nicely with surface wrinkles and creasing throughout along with lt. corner wear. Back of photo exhibits lt. foxing in several spots along with a handwritten notation "S-17-7-2430", likely a file number for the photo. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
