Item Description
5x7" vintage glossy silver gelatin photo depicting 14 individuals dressed in formal attire, likely posed inside the home of one of these gentlemen. Back of photo contains handwritten note "Grupo N.Y. Cubans 1935 - (Lazaro) Salazar, Rodolfo (Fernandez), Javier Perez, (Pelayo) Chacon". While Salazar, Fernandez and Perez are present along with Antonio Santaella, Pelayo Chacon is actually not pictured. Salazar began his professional baseball career in 1924 with the New York Cubans of the Negro League, where he would spend several seasons as one of the top two-way players out there. In addition Salazar spent several winters playing in the Dominican and Cuba during the 1930s as well as the entire decade of the 1940s in the Mexican League, ultimately being selected to the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame in 1954. Clarity of the image is excellent, a few lt. creases are present throughout, with one 7/8" tear breaking paper in the upper left-hand corner. Back of photo contains some glue residue around the edges. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
