Item Description
8-1/8x10" vintage glossy photo depicting 17 ballplayers in full uniform posed on a ballfield in front of stadium seating. Photographer's studio credit on back reads "Wehrley Studios, Tulsa". Caption at bottom of photo reads "Tulsa Texas League Oilers Season 1937". All players are identified at the top of the photo along with their positions on the diamond. The 1937 Tulsa Oilers finished in second place in the Class A1 Texas League with a record of 89-69 under manager Bruce Connatser. A total of 14 team members would go on to play Major League baseball from this team, Johnny Burnett the most significant. Image quality is phenomenal for this photo, six small pinholes are present in all four corners as well as the left and right, center edges. There is a large blue ink stain, approximately 1.25" located in the lower left-hand corner, which covers up part of the "Tulsa" team name. Back of photo exhibits a few scattered scuff marks. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
