Item Description
7-1/8x9" vintage glossy photo depicting Pittsburgh Pirates teammates, Hall of Famer, Pie Traynor and Elbie Fletcher. Photographer's stamp on back indicates "Associated Press Photo" along with original paper caption descriptor, which identifies the individuals along with a photo date of 7-22-39. At this point in his career, Pie Traynor was the Pittsburgh manager, following 17 seasons of playing third base for the Pirates, finishing with a career batting average of .320 with 58 home runs and 1,273 RBI's. At the conclusion of his playing career, Pie was regarded by many as the finest all-around third baseman in baseball history up to that point in time. Elbie Fletcher enjoyed a 12 year MLB career and finished with a .271 career batting average along with 79 homers and 616 RBI's. Photo exhibits lt. creasing in each corner along with lt. creasing and a tiny tear along left edge and a couple of additional creases in the upper right-hand corner. VG.
