Item Description
5-7/8x7.5" vintage glossy photo depicting four ballplayers in a huddle prior to the 1939 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Paper caption on back identifies the four ballplayers as Ernie Lombardi (Cincinnati Reds), Whit Wyatt (Brooklyn NL), Paul Derringer (St. Louis Cardinals) and Bill Lee (Chicago Cubs). Baseball Hall of Fame catcher Ernie Lombardi played 17 seasons of Major League Baseball, primarily for the Cincinnati Reds throughout the 1930s. Known primarily for his offensive skills, Ernie finished with a career batting average of .306 along with 190 homers and 990 RBI's. Lombardi was a 7-time National League All-Star and winner of the NL MVP Award in 1938. Image quality of the photo is excellent, but two heavy horizontal creases span the entire length of the photo. Back of photo exhibits lt. scuffing along with cellophane tape providing support for a heavy, horizontal crease. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
