Item Description
7-1/8x9" vintage glossy press photo depicting four members of the American League's Chicago White Sox in full uniform and posed on a baseball field with a small number of fans present in the stands. ACME News Pictures photographer's stamp appears on back along with several other date stamped items. Photo was taken inside Brookside Park in Pasadena, CA during March of 1940 as the White Sox were in the midst of Spring Training in preparation for opening day of the baseball season. Pictured here left to right are: Eric McNair (INF), Luke Appling (INF), Monty Stratton (P) & Michael Kreevich (OF). The 1940 White Sox ball club would go on to finish in fourth place in the American League with a record of 82-72. Hall of Famer, Luke Appling, posted one of the best offensive seasons of his career during 1940, finishing with a batting average of .348 and an on-base percentage of .420.  Bold and striking image surrounded by white border with some rippling of the paper, primarily along the right side of the photo. Back of photo contains original paper caption descriptor along with other appropriate stampings. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
