Item Description
8x10" vintage glossy press photo depicting long-time Chicago Cubs great, Phil Cavarretta, completing another vicious swing on a ballfield with a number of baseball fans seated in the background. Back of photo contains handwritten notation reading "Phil Cavarretta 1B + OF - Captain". Phil starred for the National League's Chicago Cubs ball club for 20 years from 1934-53 finishing with career numbers of a .293 batting average along with 95 home runs and 920 runs batted in. Cavarretta would also play two abbreviated seasons with the cross-town Chicago White Sox before hanging up his spikes for good in 1955. Bold and striking image surrounded by white border with various indentations and surface wrinkles present throughout but do not detract from the overall presentation of the photo. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
