Item Description
6.25x8-3/8" vintage glossy photo depicting long-time Cuban/Mexican star, Pedro Pages, likely in his Cienfuegos (Cuba) uniform as much of the team logo is cropped out of the image. Photographer's stamp on back identifies Pages as well as a date stamp of Feb. 24, 1946 along with other misc., notations. Pages began his professional baseball career playing in the U.S. Negro Leagues for the New York Cubans in 1939. Following that season, Pedro starred in the Mexican League playing first for two years in Mexico City before joining the Puebla ball club from 1942-46. During that five year span, Pages compiled batting averages of .365, .353, .347, .269 and .296 before rejoining the New York Cubans during their Negro League pennant winning season of 1947. Throughout the 1940s Pedro also played winter ball in his homeland of Cuba, primarily for the Cienfuegos ball club. Image quality of the photo is superb, photo exhibits some paper pressures on front only visible in reflected light, back has a few lt. scuff marks present. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
