Item Description
Only example known to Hake's, 2-3/8" tall brass stickpin w/die-cut celluloid pennant 1-9/16" wide. Jennings and slogan on bread advertising cello stickpin w/Buster Brown. The only front text is his famous yell "Wee-Ah". Like the previous item, Buster's dog Tige is replaced by a smiling and winking tiger who is sitting up in imitation of Tige's typical pose. Reverse text "Morton's Holsum Bread Always a Winner". Tiny maker's text names Whitehead & Hoag plus a 1905 patent date. The 1909 Detroit Tigers ball club was the champion of the American League with a final regular season record of 98-54 under future Hall of Fame manager Hughie Jennings. Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford were the offensive stalwarts of a team that ultimately lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in a hotly contested 1909 World Series, four games to three. Jennings was a star shortstop for many years in Detroit before taking over the managerial reigns towards the end of his playing career. Hughie was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1945. Exc. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
