Item Description
10-3/8x13" display plaque contains glossy 7x9.25" vintage 1940s photo showing Mickey Cochrane (1903-1962) shouting encouragement to his players. Cochrane, was an American professional baseball player, manager and coach who played in MLB as a catcher for the Philadelphia Athletics (1925-1933) and Detroit Tigers (1934-1938) before going on to manage Detroit. During World War II, Cochrane served in the US Navy and was assigned to Naval Station Great Lakes, where he oversaw training of new recruits and coached the base's baseball team (as seen in photo offered here). On July 7, 1942, Cochrane managed an All-Service team that played against an AL all-star squad at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium. He was a two-time All-Star, a three-time World Series champ and a two-time AL MVP. Cochrane was elected to the National Baseball HOF in 1947. News service photo has stamp on back but applied text sheet is no longer present, remnants remain. Photo has been signed in blue ink at top left. Scattered handling wear w/margin creasing. Fine. Photo has been encased within wall plaque w/custom text plate below and is ready for display. Photo can be easily removed from plaque if so desired. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
