Item Description
18x24" frame contains professionally double-matted typed signed letter on Cleveland Indians Farm System Training Base letterhead dated April 1, 1950. Letter is from Tris Speaker (1888-1958), nicknamed "The Grey Eagle," considered one of the greatest offensive and defensive center fielders in MLB history. With a MLB career spanning 1907-1928, he was named the 1912 AL MVP and was a three-time World Series champ. Speaker was elected to the National Baseball HOF in 1937. Speaker returned to baseball in 1947 as "ambassador of good will" for the Cleveland Indians. He remained in advisory, coaching or scouting roles for the Indians until his death in 1958. Letter apologizes for Speaker not being able to make it to dinner honoring Arch Ward, creator of the MLB All-Star Game. Letter has been signed in black ink and is folded as mailed. Letter has been attractively double-matted in Indians colors and has custom text incorporated into design as well as text plate of surface of frame. Exc. and ready for display. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA. Chuck Bruce HOF Collection.
