Item Description
3-3/8"x5-3/8" vintage silver gelatin postcard depicting 18 ballplayers in full uniform with all individuals identified above/below their respective images. Copyright identifies "J.M. Colby, Wausau" in the upper right-hand corner. The 1914 Wausau Lumberjacks finished in last place in the Class C Wisconsin-Illinois League with a final record of 39-82 under manager George Bubser. The only ballplayer to make the Major Leagues from this squad was star slugger, Hack Miler, who enjoyed a six year stint with the Chicago Cubs during the 1920s and amazingly finished his MLB career with a .323 batting average. Image clarity of the team photo is superb with lt., even corner wear. Divided postcard back is blank and unused, exhibits areas of foxing and AZO stamp box indicates that this postcard was produced between 1904-18, which is consistent with the subject matter present. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
