Item Description

3-3/8"x5.5" vintage matte postcard depicting 10 team members posed in a studio setting with period baseball equipment visible in the foreground. As was the norm with virtually all Bloomer Girls baseball clubs of the era, the team was comprised of males and females, in this case, two men and eight women. In 1911, Maud Nelson (former Boston Bloomer Girls standout) formed and managed this Western Bloomer Girls team along with husband Joe Olson. This club originated in Watervleit, Michigan and represented the ladies' champion baseball club of the area. Image retains superb clarity with lt., even cornet wear along with some foxing/staining around the image borders, a .25" tear along the top edge and a couple of minor creases around the corner areas. Divided postcard bank remains blank and unused, displays a couple of light brown stains and lt. foxing along with a 1" area of stress at center. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
