Item Description
Box w/illustrated lid contains complete Set 1 of 30 3.5x5.25" postcards featuring portraits of Negro League ballplayers by noted sports painter Ron Lewis. This set was released as a limited edition by Capital Cards in conjunction w/the Negro Leagues Baseball Player Association (NLBPA) in 1991. Box has some corner tip/edge wear and is VF/Exc. Of the 30 postcards, 27 have been signed by their respective player. Of note, those who have signed include National Baseball HOF members - Ray Dandridge (1913-1994), Leon Day (1916-1995), Monte Irvin (1919-2016), Buck Leonard (1907-1997) and Willie Mays. Others who have signed include - Wilmer Fields (1922-2004), Max Manning (1918-2003), Quincy Trouppe (1912-1993), Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe (1902-2005), Josh Gibson Jr. (1930-2003), Rufus Lewis (1919-1999), Cowan "Bubba" Hyde (1909-2003), Lester Lockett (1912-2005), Gene Benson (1913-1999), Josh Johnson (1914-1999), Frank Evans (1921-2012), Garnett Blair (as well as another card signed at Lonnie Blair; 1921-1996) , Jehosie Heard (1920-1999), Armando Vazquez (1923-2008), William "Bobby" Robinson (1903-2002), Mahlon Duckett (1922-2015), Bill Wright (1914-1996), Jimmie Crutchfield (1910-1993), Verdell "Lefty" Mathis (1914-1998), Lyman Bostock Sr. (1918-2005), Bob Harvey (1918-1992), Bill Cash (1919-2011) and George Giles (1909-1992). Clyde McNeil card has facsimile signature. Postcards are individually stamped w/edition number (597) on unused backs. A few have corner tip wear here and there, but most are Exc. to NM as issued and make for wonderful display as majority are signed. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA Auction LOA.
