Item Description
See previous lot. This is Set 2, featuring 32 postcards, also w/portraits of Negro League ballplayers by Ron Lewis. A few cards feature same players seen in Set 1 but feature totally different card art. Released as a limited edition by Leisure Concepts, Inc. in conjunction w/the Negro Leagues Baseball Player Association (NLBPA) in 1991. Box has some corner tip/edge wear w/creasing to lid at center right. VF. Of the 32 postcards, 24 have been signed by their respective player(s). Three cards feature multiple players and of these, two have been multi-signed for total of 27 signatures. Of note, those who have signed include National Baseball HOF members - Buck Leonard (1907-1997) and Monte Irvin (1919-2016). Leonard is depicted on card w/Josh Gibson Jr. (1930-2003), who has also signed. Others who have signed include - Buck O'Neill (1911-2006), Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe (1902-2005), Lester Lockett (1912-2005), Wilmer Fields (1922-2004), Artie Wilson (1920-2010), Earl Taborn (1922-1996), Willie Pope (1918-2010), Ray Noble (1919-1998), Jim "Fireball" Cohen (1918-2002), Charlie Biot (1917-2000), Al Wilmore (1924-1996), Sam Jethroe (1917-2001), Stanley Glenn (1926-2011), Napoleon "Nap" Gulley (1924-1999, last name misspelled "Gully" on card), Wilmer Harris (1924-2004), Art "Superman" Pennington (1923-2017), Russell Awkard (1917-2002), Claro Duany (1917-1997), Tommy Sampson (1912-2002) and Willie Grace (1917-2006). Armando Vazquez (1923-2008) and Minnie Miñoso (1925-2015) have signed same card. Bill Owens (1901-1999) and William "Bobby" Robinson (1903-2002) have signed same card. Eight card remain unsigned, one (Willie Mays/Ernie Banks/Hank Aaron) card having moderate corner crease. Postcards are individually stamped w/edition number (3665) on unused backs. A few have corner tip wear here and there and Vazquez/Miñoso/Leonard and one other card (unsigned) have moderate creases and are Fine overall, but most are Exc. to NM as issued and make for wonderful display as majority are signed.
