Item Description
12x16" artboard has mixed media original art by comic artist J.L. Blume, known for his cover work on Spanish comic books starring The Phantom. Cover is for the Spanish edition of "El Hombre Enmascarado" #2, which was published in Spain by Valenciana as part of their Colosos Del Comic line in 1980. Artboard has image area measuring 10x14" showing art for "The Great Race" cover story, w/The Phantom standing in front of large skull, flanked by images of hot air balloon race and the Statue of Liberty. Phantom's fist (w/skull ring) and image of him on motorcycle appear at bottom. Signed by Blume at lower left. Top margin has handwritten "No. 2" designation. Back has some thin strips of tape staining. Overlay has inked publication information along top margin and is detached. Artboard exhibits corner tip/edge wear but art remains bright, clean and could easily be matted and framed for an Exc. display. Unique. Cover and contents were exclusive to the Spanish market and saw no US counterpart. Comes w/reading copy of the comic this cover art was created for.
