Item Description
11-7/8x16-1/8" artboard w/attached overlay has mixed media original art by comic artist J.L. Blume, known for his cover work on Spanish comic books starring The Phantom. Cover is for the Spanish edition of "El Hombre Enmascarado" #7, which was published in Spain by Valenciana as part of their Colosos Del Comic line in 1980. Artboard has image area measuring 10-3/8x14.25" showing art for "The Impregnable Fortress" cover story, w/The Phantom at right w/gun drawn and large ancient Egyptian funerary mask depicting The Phantom at center. This is flanked by Egyptian jackal images and image of the Winged Victory of Samothrace classical statue at left. Signed by Blume at lower left. Top margin of overlay has handwritten "No. 7" designation w/repeated issue number at lower right. This is repeated at lower right corner of artboard. Back has artist's inkstamp. Artboard exhibits some lt. corner tip/edge wear but art remains bright, clean and could easily be matted and framed for an Exc. display. Unique. Cover and contents were exclusive to the Spanish market and saw no US counterpart. Comes w/reading copy of the comic this cover art was created for.
