Item Description
1.25" w/name of hometown maker Parisian Nov. Co. on curl. In 1930 the newspaper issued two sets of portrait buttons for the city's MLB teams, the Cubs and the White Sox (see next lot). Each set is comprised of 10 different buttons. Buttons give player name, position and team name. The 1930 Chicago Cubs finished in second place in the National League with a record of 90-64-2 under National Baseball Hall of Fame manager, Joe McCarthy. In alphabetical order by last name are: Les Bell, Kiki Cuyler (HOF), Woody English, Charlie Grimm, Gabby Hartnett (HOF), Rogers Hornsby (HOF), Joe McCarthy (HOF-Mgr), Charlie Root, Riggs Stephenson and Hack Wilson (HOF). Grimm and Harnett each have three white dots as printed below the bill of their hats. High grade Exc. to NM set. Buttons are rare, even rarer as a complete set. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
