Item Description
3.5X5.5" vintage matte postcard depicting 10 team members in full uniform posed on a ballfield. Imprint at bottom of photo reads "Lancaster Baseball Club 1922". Photographer's credit on back reads "The T.L. Cook Co., Milwaukee". The 1922 Lancaster ball club was a unique outfit in that none of their players were from Pennsylvania. Instead, the entire roster was made up of ballplayers from Chicago and Milwaukee, who were each paid a monthly salary. In addition, professional ballplayers graced the club's roster in 1922, "Rowdy" Elliott and Ed Giencke. Thousands of fans gathered at the Fairgrounds Park every time the Dodgers took the field, and it was said that on the Fourth of July, 8,000 fans were in attendance to watch their team play the Negro League's, Union Giants of Chicago. Lt. even corner wear present, divided postcard back remains blank and unused with foxing visible around the edges. VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
