Item Description
8.5x11" typed letter on "Marvel Comics Group" letterhead has wonderful illustration of Marvel characters - Fantastic Four, Thor, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk and other - along left and bottom margins. This is the first Marvel letterhead featuring illustrations and letter bears watermark. Letter is dated Dec. 3, 1965 and is from Flo Steinberg (Correspondent to Stan Lee), thanking sender for letter on behalf of Stan and goes on to stat that Marvel does not have older back issues available for purchase. This was in the days before specialty comic shops were as prevalent as they are today, so readers would contact Marvel regarding back issues. Letter states "Our Subscription Department Keeps Recent One, But No 'Oldies'. (Seeing As You're A Special [sic] Friend, If There's A Couple That You'd Like Desperately And They're Not Too Old, Let Us Know And We'll See If We Can Help.)" Letter has been signed in black ink by Steinberg and is folded as mailed. Top corners show some wear w/crease at upper left, but o/w letter is VF. This letter on desirable first illustrated letterhead is a great piece of ephemera for the 1960s Marvel collector.
