Item Description
22.5x35" screen print. First pre-show printing intended for use to actually promote the concert.  Advertising a concert in Houston, TX at The Unicorn featuring Soundgarden and Pearl Jam on Thur. April 30, 1992. Art by Frank Kozik known as the Green Lady considered his pinnacle work and the poster that ushered in the silk screen era of concert posters. This poster is more frequently seen as a numbered edition of 450, that poster was produced and sold by Kozik as a merchandising poster. The present example, according to Kozik, was done in an edition of between 100-150 delivered to the show promoter Tom Bunch of TAB to be used in the Houston area to promote attendance at the show. Besides the shorter print run and lack of signature the major difference is the three yellow stars in the background are orange on the larger edition. Damp stain at lower left corner in margin not affecting print area, corner creases and bumps and light edge wear- all of which will easily frame out. Technically Fine but once frame will display NM. Fresh color and a striking presence that will dominate any wall. Soundgarden had released Badmotorfinger roughly six months prior to this show and Pearl Jam was touring on their first record, Ten, released in Oct. 1991 that did not really catch fire until the second half of 1992 coinciding with the band's Lollapalooza billing.

Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament speaking in an Instagram post shortly after news of Kozik's passing in May of 2023 recalled "I first became aware of Kozik's amazing poster work when I walked into the band dressing room at the Unicorn in Houston on April 30, 1992... I immediately removed it from the wall and put it in the equipment/t-shirt truck. Fast forward to 2018, and it's in the Pearl Jam exhibit at MoPop." These posters were distributed in the Houston area to promote attendance at the show. Given the reality that many of these were used in the ceremony of gig promotion combined with the miniscule 100-150 print run leaves little doubt that their survival rate is low. Considering also this prints importance in the history of the era and of rock posters in general, that its printing helped spur a wider revival in the art form, and it's no stretch to call this one of the most iconic posters of the 1990s and a trophy piece in any collection.
