Item Description
Sky Masters Of The Space Force was a comic strip that dealt w/a then fictional astronaut program. Illustrated by Jack Kirby (1917-1994) w/inks by Wally Wood (1927-1981), it was a strip of the Atomic Age and ahead of its time. Offered here is Kirby and Wood's pen and ink (w/screentone accents) original art for the Oct. 9, 1958 daily strip (the twenty-eighth in the series) on 8.75x20.5" artboard. Strip features three panels, showing Space Force launchpad w/rocket and officials monitoring orbit of astronaut. Last panel has paste-over w/original art showing Earth and various orbits. Second panel has "Kirby-Wood" signature/date circle. George Matthew Adams Service Inc. paste-over strip in first panel. Some scattered penciling in wide margins, but art remains clean and Exc. Perfect for framing. Comes w/1991 hardcover reprint book by Pure Imagination that reprints daily strips from Sept. 8, 1958 to May 8, 1959 and the eight color Sundays from Feb. to March 1959 as Sky Masters Of The Space Force #1. Frontispiece has bookplate that has been signed in black felt tip pen by Jack Kirby (1917-1994) that has been hand-numbered "136/1000." Exc.
