Item Description
From same series as previous lots. Having begun his career before the turn of the century in 1896, Nap Lajoie was one of baseball's brightest stars of the 1900s-1910s. Lajoie compiled one of the top five all-around batting seasons of the 20th century during 1901, winning the AL Triple Crown w/a .426 batting average to go along w/league leading totals of 14 home runs and 125 RBI's in addition to topping the AL in runs scored w/145 and doubles with 48. Nap would finish his MLB career with a .338 batting average, accounting for three AL batting titles, and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. The lower grade is largely due to center area of the card back which has pair of .5" spots of surface paper loss and pair of 1" tape strips. However, back remains unused. Front has trace of corner tip/margin wear but eye appeal greatly exceeds the PSA grade and with no significant defects seen to the naked eye. Front remains bright and clean with sharp image. PSA census indicates a total of only six of these cards ever graded by PSA. A key card in the set. Recently graded and fresh to the market.
