Item Description
Created for the sole purpose of selling toys, Our Friend, Power 5 is a 1989 South Korean live action-animated movie directed by Park Ho-Jin. A science-fiction/fantasy story that incorporates element of the popular Super Robot genre w/bootleg Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aspects, hoping to capitalize on the tremendous popularity of the Turtles. Offered here is a 14.5x23x4" deep cardboard box w/carrying handle and styrofoam insert w/die-cut cardboard cover that contains multi-piece transforming Bandai Machine Robo/GoBots design (slightly altered Battle Armor 5 design)  alongside five 3" tall partially vacuum-metallized Turtle figures w/separate weapons and accessories. This set was made in South Korea by Popeye Toys (who were also involved w/the production of the aforementioned movie) and imported by Italian company Globo (as noted by Italian language label at top left corner of lid). One of two different designs produced by Popeye Toys, this set is Battle-Five (while other was named Commander-Five). Of note, this set was released w/two different box lid designs; the one offered here and a similar, later design w/the addition of a large Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle image on different color bkg. Toy comes w/photo illustrated movie program for the film, further cementing the collaboration between Popeye Toys and the Our Friend, Power 5 film. Program shows some handling wear and is Fine/VF overall. Box has European (Euro) price sticker on lid side panel w/remnants of price sticker on lid. Tray cover has puncture to one cellophane window and tape at center left/right has aged and/or fallen off. Box has some lt. scattered wear and is VF overall. Contents appear complete, w/illustrated instruction folder (featuring photo images of Playmates Ninja Turtles figures; which are also featured on one box lid side panel) and weapons/accessories. Some scattered aging/wear, but still Exc. overall. Very rare and first we've offered. Something very different for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collectors.
