6.5x9.5" © 1986 Art Spiegelman. w/160 bw pages in comic book format. Published by Pantheon, 1986 edition © Random House. Title page has ink profile of full figure Maus smoking cigarette signed "Art Spiegelman '07". Clear book jacket cover applied. Lt. aging/handling wear, otherwise Exc. Front cover has gold sticker "Winner Of The Pulitzer Prize". Maus was published as two graphic novel volumes by American cartoonist Art Spiegelman and was first serialized from 1980 to 1991 in RAW magazine as an insert, an avant-garde comics and graphics magazine published by Spiegelman and his wife. It depicts Spiegelman interviewing his father about his experiences as a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor. The work employs postmodern techniques, and represents Jews as mice and German and Polish people as cats and pigs respectively. Critics have classified Maus as memoir, biography, history, fiction, autobiography, or a mix of genres. In 1992 it became the first graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize. Duke Caldwell Collection.
