Item Description
The Bowman Gum Co. issued its first set of baseball cards in 1948, making it one of the first major card releases of the post-war period. Measuring 2-1/16x2.5", the series of 48 bw cards have player bio on back. Spahn began his MLB career with the Boston Braves in 1942, pitching only four games before military service interrupted his playing days for the next three years. Returning in 1946, Spahn would go on to become what many consider to be the greatest left-handed starting pitcher in baseball history, finishing his career with a record of 363-245 along with a 3.09 ERA. Elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. Bold signature. PSA/DNA pop report indicates that this is one of two graded by PSA at this level w/only 15 higher.
