Item Description
The Star Wars Holiday Special was originally broadcast on CBS Nov. 17, 1978. Set between the first Star Wars film and the then yet-to-be-released sequel The Empire Strikes Back, it saw the main cast reprise their roles to film new content. The special also featured an animated segment produced by the nascent animation studio Nelvana of Toronto, Canada. The 10-minute cartoon was entitled "The Faithful Wookie," and served as an introduction to the popular bounty hunter Boba Fett. Offered here is an original hand-painted production animation cel setup, measuring approx. 11-1/8x14" overall, consisting of three acetate sheets and hand-painted production bkg. Top cel has image area measuring 8x8" and features Boba Fett w/jetpack and Wookiee braids as he appeared in the special. Bottom of this sheet has added acetate binder strip labeled as "15/4 - BB10." Second cel has image area measuring 3.75x4.75" and shows two Imperial Stormtroopers on patrol. Top of this sheet has added acetate binder strip labeled as "15/4 - S-1" while top of sheet has "Repeg To Top Pegs" printed notation. Third and final sheet has printed black line art for the city bkg. Original hand-painted production bkg. also bears matching "15-4" scene designation. Top sheet has Lucasfilm Ltd. sticker noting "Original Production Cel" and bearing 1999 copyright date. Cel setup is taped at bottom to bkg. w/individual cels taped together along bottom margin. Painted bkg. shows some scattered wear w/surface paper left along left exposed margin and right margin has piece of tape just above center. Cels show just lt. aging and handling wear. VF/Exc. overall. Comes w/Royal Animated Art, LLC COA. Rare and historic cel setup from the segment that introduced one of Star Wars' most enduring and popular characters.
