Item Description
The Red Man Tobacco baseball card sets issued between 1952-55 were the first nationally distributed tobacco advertising cards since the early days of the 20th century. The 50 card set released in 1955 measures 3.5x4" and included 25 ballplayers from each league. Card fronts feature full color portraits. Advertising back denotes promotions being offered by Red Man.
Edward Charles "Whitey" Ford, nicknamed "the Chairman of the Board", was an American professional baseball pitcher who played his entire 16-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the New York Yankees. He was a 10-time All-Star and 6-time World Series champion. In 1961, he won both the Cy Young Award and World Series Most Valuable Player Award. Ford led the American League (AL) in wins three times and in earned run average twice. He is the Yankees franchise leader in career wins (236), shutouts (45), innings pitched (3,170+1/3), and games started by a pitcher (438; tied with Andy Pettitte). Ford was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974. The autograph on the card is very strong w/good placement not overly impeding the image. This signed copy is one of only two examples ever graded by PSA as well as being the highest graded.
