Sir Peter Blake is one of the leading figures in British pop art. Best known for designing the iconic album cover to the Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (on which he included his friend Richard Merkin), Blake’s work is inspired by his love affair with icons and the ephemera of popular culture. From a series of 8 different prints issued in 1970 featuring Blake’s choice watercolor art based on Alice and her adventures. Blake was originally commissioned in 1969 to illustrate Alice books, but the cost of the books eventually became prohibitive, so he took the art he had created for that project and produced this series of prints. This print is titled “And To Show You I’m Not Proud, You May Shake Hands With Me!” and features Alice with Humpty Dumpty. Prints in this series were limited editions of just 100, but this is a much more limited unnumbered artist proof noted in pencil “A/P” and signed by Blake at lower right corner below art. Framed, N.
