Item Description
10x14” stiff illustration board has original pen and ink/watercolor specialty art by Popeye Artist Bud Sagendorf showing Popeye from shoulders up with word balloon reading “Ahoy, Johnny…Be A Good Li’l Boy Kid And Eat Yer Spinach!” Art has been inscribed “Bes’ Wishes To Johnny From Popeye An’ Bud Sagendorf ’69.” Bud Sagendorf worked on the “Thimble Theatre Starring Popeye” comic strip, taking over following creator E.C. Segar’s death in 1938, going on to continue the “Popeye” daily strip until 1986. At this point, Sagendorf only contributed Sunday strips, continuing until his death in 1994. Art has even moderate aging and wear along margin with scattered faint moisture marks at top of word bubble. Art could be matted and framed for a VF display. Great specialty art by one of Popeye’s most important artists.
