Item Description
7.75x10” overall. 5x6.75” image area. This is likely mid-1910s if not earlier. In 1899 the Regiment deployed to the Philippine Islands to help surpress a guerilla movement known as the Philippine-American War. The regiment would return to the islands again in 1905 and 1911. This is most likely from one of the latter deployments. Image shows soldier in back center holding elaborate trophy. Possibly regimental champions. Players wear matching uniforms. Each player is numbered with corresponding number/names at bottom. Photographer impression at bottom reads “Slosenbury/Studio/P.I.” Back mark in artistic ink reads “Private. Otis. Dacus. Co. E. 24th. Inf. /Manila. Phil., Il’s.” Noticeable age. Roughness to mount. One scratch through top right image area not affecting players’ names. General lt. wear/aging. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
