Item Description
10" diameter high quality porcelain plate has nice art image of Mount Fuji surrounded by fog and foliage. Plate has with bold black ink inscription in Kelly's hand, "George Kelly U.S. Japan Tour 1931 Millbrae, Calif”. Kelly signed this plate at a later date at his retirement location of Millbrae. This plate was part of a collection of items from Kelly's estate. Immediately following the 1931 season, a group of baseball’s finest visited Japan in 1931. In the decades that followed, momentoes from the U. S. All-Star tour became highly sought collectibles. Plate was made by the Noritake Co. of Nagoya, Japan. Hand-painted porcelain plate has company logo on back including text “Nippon Toki Kaisha”. Ink on a few letters of inscription is a bit thin, otherwise plate is Exc. A unique and rare item. Also see photo trio #1438 and cigarette case #1440. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
