Item Description
3-5/8x6" signed envelope for June 12, 1939. Postmarked Cooperstown, N.Y., the location of the Baseball Hall of Fame. This is more than likely issued in celebration of baseball's centennial. 3¢ stamp features purpletone scene of children playing baseball. Young has signed his name in middle of envelope in blue ink. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937 w/Morgan Bulkeley, Ban Johnson, Nap Lajoie, Connie Mack, John McGraw, Tris Speaker, George Wright. He played for Cleveland Spiders, St. Louis Perfectos, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Americans, Boston Somersets, Boston Pilgrims, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Naps (Indians), Boston Braves. Envelope has lt. wear and aging, vertical fold crease in center, bottom of front has stamped address. Near-VF. Comes w/letter of authenticity from Hake's.
