Item Description
13.5x18x4.25" deep high quality black wood box with ornately designed frame-like top has Plexiglas over mat revealing 9.75" tall model prop figure consisting of wire armatures covered in model makers foam and hand painted. Some cracks in legs and at shoulder where wire brace holds it in place. Still Fine overall. Item was obtained from a union carpenter who worked with one of George Pal's model builders. This model was made to be used as a guide for the prop designers. Based on H.G. Wells "The War of the Worlds" book the 1953 George Pal science fiction film starred Gene Barry and Ann Robinson and is considered to be one of the great sci-fi films of the 1950s. It won an Oscar for its special effects. The film was produced by Pal and directed by Bryon Haskin. The storyline has Martians invading the earth in what people think is a giant meteor. Earth forces try everything to defeat the Martians but they actually end up dying on their own from earth's viruses and bacteria. Wonderful item in a superbly designed box ready for display.
