Item Description
12x19-7/8"sepia tone photo by Baker Art Gallery shows 19 players in uniform on field. Photo is signed in fountain pen ink by all members. Key players include: George Kelly, Spence Harris, Burnie Neis, Ernie Smith, Eddy Sicking, Bubbles Hargrave, Chas Dressen, Frank Emmer, Tom Sheehan, Jim Brillhart, Dutch Henry, and Billy Meyer along with seven others. Left margin has 9.75" diagonal crease with tear repaired on back with clear tape but photo is still Fine and players images and signatures are not affected. The Millers played in the American Association and won four pennants during the 1910-1923 time when they were managed by Joe Cantillon and then were managed from 1924 to 1931 by Michael Joseph Kelley, who was also club president until 1946. Ted Williams, Willie Mays and Carl Yastrzemski were among some future major leaguers who played for the Millers. Of those shown in this photo, George Kelly played with the New York Giants regularly beginning in 1920 and drove in 100 or more runs for four consecutive years and batted .300 or higher six consecutive seasons. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 1927 and spent part of 1930 and all of 1931 with the Minneapolis Millers, retiring after the 1932 season as a member of the Dodgers. Charles Dressen was the third baseman for the Cincinnati Reds between 1925 and 1931 and also played for the 1933 New York Giants, batting .272 in 646 games. His last major league baseball appearance was in 1933 with the Giants and he would go on to manage the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers, Washington Senators, Milwaukee Braves, and Detroit Tigers including winning consecutive National League Pennants in 1952 and 53. Ernie Smith played shortstop for the Chicago White Sox in 1930. A great looking signed team photo. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA and JSA LOA.
