Item Description
4x5" glossy close-up with Simpson about to swing bat is signed in ballpoint pen at bottom of image. Letter "N" of last name is in dark area, photo has a few minor handling creases at right side just visible in reflected light. c. 1951. VF. Simpson began his career with the Wilkes-Barre Indians in 1949 and went to the AA Pacific Coast League Padres in 1951. He would go on to spend eight seasons in the Major Leagues between 1951 and 1959 playing with the Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Athletics, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and Pittsburgh Pirates before going back to the Minor Leagues in 1960 with the Padres. His Major League batting average was .266 including 73 home runs, 752 hits, and 381 RBIs. He was an All Star in 1956 and lead the AL in triples in 1956-1957. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
