1.5x2-3/8" Cuban card produced for the Aguilitas Cigarette brand. The baseball cards are a subset featuring 44 players from the Cuban Professional League. This extensive 900 card set also featured movie and stage stars, boxers, and other subjects. Glossy photo front w/text below portrait "Mendez Base Ball." The card back has the card number and an ad for Aguilitas. Slightest margin trim but a sharp, bold image. This is a key card in the set. The "Black Diamond" as Mendez was referred to, was inducted into the National Baseball HOF in 2006 and is one of the true legends of the game for his accolades as both player and coach in the Negro Leagues. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
