Item Description
3.5x5.5" w/glossy photo front of 17 member team in uniform on ball field w/stadium crowd in the bkg. Printed text includes team name and date of June 18, 1939. This team was champion of the Vera Cruz Winter League 1939-40. Standing back row forth from the left is Cuban and Venezuelan HOF member Lazaro Salazar. His career stats include 112-78 as a pitcher in the Mexican League and 35-24 as a pitcher in Cuba. He hit .382 in the Negro Leagues, third all time behind Chino Smith and Larry Doby. He had batting titles in three countries and was regularly in his league’s top ten in both average and ERA. He went on to become one of the most successful managers in Mexican League history, taking four different teams to championships. Card reverse has inked message and ink stamp text. Lt. handling wear w/faint 2" crease at lower left really only visible in reflected light. Few minor surface flakes along right edge that mostly blend. Image remains clean and sharp. VG.
