Item Description
Nicknamed "The Swamp Fox," Alvin Dark was a MLB shortstop and manager who played for five NL teams from 1946 to 1960. Dark was named Rookie of the Year w/the 1948 Boston Braves. After joining the New York Giants he became the first NL shortstop to hit 20 home runs more than once. He went on to become the third manager to win pennants w/both NL and AL teams. Spalding "Autograph Model 1136" baseball mitt has "Al Dark" facsimile signature in "Form Pocket." Mitt shows aging/wear from use w/lt. wear to text and full body image of Dark. Fine overall. Comes w/18x24" die-cut cardboard featuring Dark wearing St. Louis Cardinals hat, dating this to the years he played for them, 1956-1958. Art is by Willard Mullin, w/his stylized art noticeable on player beneath Dark's head. Sign was designed for use as Spalding gear store display. Scattered wear w/creases at die-cut corners and along edges. Fine. Sign is rare.
