Original photo has overall size of 6.5x10.75" and has been professionally relief mounted and framed to size of 15x18". Many years ago, and most likely contemporary to the photo itself, it was trimmed/cut-out along top edges around the players to give it a die-cut appearance and player names/positions were added in white ink on/around the images. It was then mounted to a sheet of black paper. Additionally there are some replaced pieces and missing pieces along with other notable defects. All of this will be addressed later in the description. 10 players are shown and all but one (Pettus at top left) wear their Stars uniforms. This includes National Baseball HOF members John Henry "Pop" Lloyd and Louis Santop. The other players are: Spottswood Poles, Bill Pierce, Dick Redding, Judy Gans, Lefty Harvey, Bill Kindle, Sam Mongin, and Pettus who wears an overcoat and bow tie. The players standing have their names inked next to images on the paper bkg. sheet, the seated players have their names inked at bottoms of legs. All players also have small inked number in red. Bottom of the sheet has inked "Lincoln Stars 1915." The Lincoln Stars (also known as the Lincoln Stars of New York or the New York Lincoln Stars) were a Negro League team that played in New York City from 1914 to 1917. The 1915 team was regarded as perhaps the strongest black team in the East. That team played a championship series against the Chicago American Giants, but the series ended in controversy. Each team won five games, and the deciding eleventh game was called in the fourth inning with the Stars ahead by a run, but the game was never completed or replayed. The photo has two crudely replaced pieces both at the left side and impacting the image of Gans. Both are roughly 1x1", one at his lap and the other on a portion of his face as well as the bodies of Pierce and Lloyd. Bit of missing image along the left edge as well. The heads of Pierce and Lloyd were detached at one point and both have hairlines visible where reattached. A tiny .25" piece is also reattached at the shoulder of Redding. Despite these notable defects the rest of the images remain sharp and distinct including Santop and an exceptional image of Poles seated at center. While far from choice condition it is the only example we know of, and of a historic Negro League team, so in this case rarity trumps condition.
