Item Description
20.5x47" frame contains original poster that has been matted to 13.75x40.5". Poster promotes Detroit team organized in 1914 (as stated on poster). Poster is c. 1920s. Lower half of poster features great image of smiling clown and center of poster features full body image of clown in full regalia (and wearing baseball cleats!) at bat. Packed stands behind him has text reading "Look Out For Imitators & Impostors." Poster touts team as "Only Ones On Earth." Poster has been folded and has seven horizontal creases as well as 3.75" crease at upper left corner and some scattered color touch-up along fold lines. Poster also has area of restoration at grip of bat, w/partial professional replacement which is only noticeable upon close inspection. Poster has slight all over age fading, but as matted and framed, poster retains a Fine display. Comes w/8.5x11" 4-page folder advertising the team, soliciting towns to put their team against the Clowns, touting the team's impressive track record and extremely entertaining qualities. Lists team's qualities as "Entertainers, Draw Big Crowds" and "Play Good Ball." Vertical fold at center but o/w VF. Poster is rare and the first example we've seen in our 47 years. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
