Item Description
See previous item #2552. Original cardboard box w/"The New Strato Bank" name printed on sides and Duro Mold & Manufacturing Co. info on end panels contains 8.25" long cast metal bank by Duro. 1961. Box shows lt. wear w/tape repair to inner flap. Fine. Small raised "Strato Bank" text on front of base w/ring around Moon globe that reads "Commemorating Comdr. Alan B. Shepard's First Flight From America Into Outer Space May 5, 1961." A version of this bank was also produced honoring John Glenn. Front side has "Your Institution's Name" decal indicating this as a salesman's sample. These banks are typically found w/decals for issuing banks. On top of rocket is a small futuristic plane that is pulled back, locking in place a spring-loaded mechanism. Small spaceman figure is also on top and this is pushed so the plane launches forward, firing the coin into a slot on the nosecone. Works. Has trap though key is missing. Front of base has some luster wear, but this is only noticeable upon close inspection. Exc. condition w/brilliant chrome luster. Scarce w/box. Rare decal variety. Comes w/10.5" tall long cast metal bank by Duro. 1961. This version has rocket perched on top of Earth w/ring of text at top of base reading ""Commemorating Comdr. Alan B. Shepard's First Flight From America Into Outer Space May 5, 1961 - 15 Min. Ht. 115 Mi. Dist. 300 Mi. Approx." Front of base also has same "Your Institution's Name" decal indicating this as a salesman's sample. Bright gold luster finish remains w/slight wear around base, but still displaying Exc.
