25" tall rubber advertising alien character named "Moonie" holds wooden pole w/stenciled marker text that reads "Mooncheese - Out Of This World Special - 39¢ Lb. - Moonie Says Great Buy." In his other, raised hand, he holds a sphere designed to look as if it were made of Swiss cheese. Raised "Moon's" text on front. The alien figure has reflective plastic jewel eyes, which show some scattered wear. We believe this to be a North Carolina/South Carolina regional dairy promotional item for grocery store use. c. 1950s. Bottom edge on back has incised Moon's copyright. Scattered wear, w/reflective foil mouth having some creasing/lift. Cardboard sign edges have some creases and small tears. Rubber figure has hardened w/age and as such, bottom base has inward warping and figure no longer stands independently. Fine overall. An incredible ad figure and the first example we've seen in our 48 years.
