Item Description
Lot of four items relating to Rob Tyner, best known as lead singer for the proto-punk rock band MC5. Tyner suffered a heart attack on Sept. 17, 1991 in Berkley, MI. that proved fatal. Offered here are two vintage handbills, for "A Birthday Celebration" that took place Dec. 12, 1987 at the Vanity Ballroom in Detroit, MI. Handbills measure 4-3/8x7.25" and 6-5/8x11". Both feature design by Mark Arminski, among his earliest concert art. Smaller has been signed in black ink at upper left by Tyner, who served as "Master Of Ceremonies" for the event. Tyner has personalized the inscriptions, adding "To Mark From Rob Tyner MC-5." Arminski has also signed at lower left in blue ink. Exc. Larger handbill has some handling wear and has also signed at lower left in blue ink. Fine/VF. Also included in lot is 8.5x11" sheet of lined paper w/"William M. Mercer Meidinger Hansen" stationery that has been filled w/Tyner's hand-written lyrics in black felt tip pen. Song is entitled "Grande Days" and Tyner has signed at upper right, adding "©1990 Warrior Nation Songs." Lyrics reference rock-filled nights of yesteryear at the Grande Ballroom. "(25th Anniversary Grande Handbill)" text written at bottom. Scattered handling wear but VF/Exc. Last item in lot is 23x28" printer's proof for pair of tribute concert posters for 1991 tribute concert. Left side features Arminski's 1987 handbill design while right features new Arminski design w/image of Tyner at center holding samurai sword. "Grande Ballroom 25th Anniversary - 1966-1991 - Thanks Rob" text appears at top/bottom. Bottom of poster features lyrics from sheet mentioned above. These two poster designs were sold at the 1992 Tyner tribute concert. This uncut sheet is the first sheet off the press as evidenced by the bright yellow color. Sheet is lightly aged and has minor corner tip wear. VF/Exc. overall. From the Mark Arminski Archives and comes with a COA specially designed, signed and remarqued by him.
