Item Description
12x18" canvas on wooden Fredrix frame has original oil painting used as the cover for the 1978 edition of Barrington J. Baylay's science-fiction book published by Condor. "The Soul Of The Robot" was Baylay's sixth science-fiction novel, first published in 1974 (w/totally different cover art), featuring the character Jasperodus from his 1956 story "Fugitive." The book tells of Jasperodus, the only robot w/a soul, as he attempts to prove that he is the equal of the humans around him. This cover art is much more visually dynamic than the original publication's cover, featuring a large image of Jasperodus smelling a flower w/a cityscape in the bkg. The robot's head, neck and hand are highly detailed, w/filigree accents. A nude man is seen in bkg. looking at a nude woman reclining on a large cat. Art was created by Abe Echevarria, a noted illustrator, educator and artist w/a long list of exhibitions and awards, including a Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators. Echevarria has signed his name at lower right. Backside of wooden frame has Echevarria's address and "'Soul Of The Robot' Paperback Cover" handwritten text. Exc. Worn reading copy of the book just comes along.
